So I have been living in Denton, TX, for one month, and here are my thoughts on the city (and the county in general). Pros and cons, here we come!
Cute downtown area
I’ve never seen a downtown area like Denton’s and it’s actually quite charming, despite being tiny. There are a lot of local businesses which I love. There is a metaphysical shop which I need to check out, and Beth Marie’s as well. There are also a ton of local shops I need to check out, and they have the community market every Saturday from 9-1.
For a college town, Denton is pretty quiet, although that might be because I live ten minutes outside of the downtown area.
30 minutes from anywhere
My relatives live nearby and it takes me only 30 minutes on a good day to get anywhere in the DFW area/North Dallas, even though it’s 30 miles each way.
New businesses always popping up
There are always new businesses popping up in the area, and a few have piqued my interest enough to check them out. For example, there’s going to be the grand reopening of an arcade and I’m definitely going to check it out!
There are good days and there are bad days on I-35, which is the main highway that runs through the DFW area. There have been days where I have been stuck in traffic for almost an hour because there was an accident which means that there are at least three cop cars and a firetruck speeding on their way to the scene, or there have been incidents where people don’t secure their items and it falls out onto the highway causing a major slowdown and almost causing a motor vehicle accident.
No Asian Food
There are absolutely zero Asian food stores in Denton, which means I have to drive 30 minutes to H-Mart and Koreatown in Carrollton or go to the more Chinese/Vietnamese places in Plano and Frisco.
There are a few attractions in Denton, like Downtown Square, but most attractions are located more in Plano, Frisco, and proper Dallas, which means driving quite the distance to be entertained.
Overall, I think it’s a great city to be in, but I’m not planning on living in Denton forever mainly due to the fact that I have to drive to see my family, and there are no Asian restaurants or grocery shops, which means my only food options are Kroger, Aldi, and Albertsons. There are also really good local shops, but parking downtown is a nightmare, which is why they have two additional free lots and a paid lot. There are also a lot of restaurants, which is good if I want to have takeout for dinner or breakfast.
What do you think of Denton?
